Do I need a 3-core cord set for a metal lampholder?
Yes. Metal lampholders that require earthing need to be connected using a 3-core cord set. If your old metal lampholder doesn't have an earth connection, you'll need to replace it with a suitable, correctly earthed lampholder, and use 3-core wiring.
If you're unsure, consult an electrician or suitably qualified person.
My old plug doesn't have insulated pins. Do I need to replace it?
Insulated active and neutral pins became mandatory for all plugs sold in NZ since 2005 (the Earth pin isn’t insulated). We recommend replacing older plugs that don't have insulated pins with a modern, compliant NZ plug.
Insulated pins have a protective covering near the base of the pins, helping reduce the risk of electric shock when inserting or removing the plug from a socket.
Can I change the position of the switch on my cord set?
The switch position is fixed on our pre-wired cord sets. If you need the switch closer to the base of the Table lamp, the cord may be shortened from the lampholder “Tail” end, provided the cord set and lamp design allow this to be done safely.
If you need the switch further away from the base than the pre-wired cord-sets allow, for example on a table lamp that is very tall, you will need to purchase an in-line switch and wire it to an un-switched cord-set.
Alternately you could use a switched lamp-holder with an un-switched cord-set.
Any alterations to mains wiring should be carried out by a suitably qualified person.
